Looking to have some fun at Halloween?

Not toooooo scary though for our littlies?

I’ve found some stories, rhymes and activities to stretch some of that imaginative thinking.

Who could imagine lovable skeletons that are not scary…

Try these ones-

This clip is from the book Funnybones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. (Picture Puffin, Penguin Australia).

My copy is held together completely with sellotape, it’s had so much use.

Funnybones is  available for purchase on many Internet sites, including in Arabic (on Book Depository)

See if your local library has a copy.

Funnybones Allan Ahlberg

The story is based on “There’s a dark dark path” poem, but then has a lot of fun with the big skeleton, little skeleton and dog skeleton going out to try and find someone to frighten. They end up having to frighten eachother!

The middle of the book has the song “ the toe bone’s connected to the foot bone…”, and it’s not too hard to guess the bones all get mixed up.

If you want to follow with songs and rhymes , try these:

Dem bones You Tube song (has a short ad to start)

The Wiggles Wiggle and learn  Dem Dry Bones ( very short, traditional and has an ad)

The next rhyme has skeletons in the middle-

If You’re A Ghost and You Know It

(To the tune of “If You’re Happy And You Know It”)

If you’re a ghost and you know it,

Just say BOO !

If you’re a ghost and you know it,

Just Say BOO!

If you’re a ghost and you know it and you really want to show it…

If you’re a ghost and you know it, just say BOO!

If you’re a black cat and you know it,

Just say MEOW

If you’re a black cat and you know it,

Just say MEOW.

If you’re a black cat and you know it,

And you really want to show it,

If you’re a black cat and you know it, just say MEOW.

If you’re a skeleton and you know it,

Wiggle your bones. (Shake your body)

If you’re a skeleton and you know it,

Wiggle your bones.

If you’re a skeleton and you know it,

And you really want to show it

If you’re a skeleton and you know it,

Wiggle your bones.

If you love Halloween and you know it,

Do all three. (All 3 actions in order of appearance)

If you love Halloween and you know it,

Do all three.

If you love Halloween and you know it,

And you really want to show it,

If you love Halloween and you know it,

Do all three.

Finally, a few skeleton jokes for those kids ( and grown ups..) ready to enjoy humour-

When does a skeleton laugh?

When something tickles his funny bone.

Why don’t skeletons like parties?

They have no body to dance with.

Watch for our next post about “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (a favourite on our booklist), and witchy activities.
