Welcome!
I’m very excited to put up my first post for the 100 Stories Before School project.
My background is in playgroup, preschool and early school education, including Reading Recovery and community early literacy projects in Sydney, Australia and New Zealand.
My husband and 1 have 2 adult children, 2 dogs, 3 chooks and an overlarge library of children’s books.
I have somehow ended up with 3 library cards for different libraries. My husband is now used to me “just having a ‘quick’ look at the children’s section” as we walk past a library pretty much anywhere.
I just love reading stories with children and families and am dedicated to spreading two messages:
- sharing stories together grows family bonds
- early literacy has a massive effect on readiness for discussion, questioning, thinking and reading and writing at school.
I’m looking forward to sharing heaps of early literacy resources for those special years just before school – from 3 -5 years.
Find the 100 Stories Before School booklist and extra resources on the website.
There will be links to other useful early literacy sites here as well- rhymes, downloads, activities, book reviews, research and more!
Our literacy calendar will give you literacy dates each month to celebrate.
(Hoppy and baby Roo) the 100 Stories Kangaroo puppets will be out and about visiting places- they’ve just come back from visiting overseas and are keen to be in some Australian pictures!
If you are a:
- parent or grandparent
- early educator
- children’s librarian
- playgroup Mum or Dad
- family day carer or anyone using stories with children
I would love to hear from you. Your stories or questions will help others.
100 Stories aims to listen and provide useful resources to help our kids start school ready to read and write.
If you haven’t checked out our Facebook and Pinterest pages yet, there’s a lot to see there as well.
